Old School

Old chinese restaurant furniture, old chinese waiters, everything is old school about Red Star.

Old, but GOOD!

My favourites:

Pheonix Feet (aka chicken feet)

The feet are cooked at the right temperature, and the right amount of time. The feet was soft, but still maintained bite. The sauce was a little spicy, and packed with a lot of punch.

Har Gao is a must have when having dim sum. The har gao here has a whole scrimp inside, unlike at certain places where they mix meat with bits of scrimp. However, I was rather disapointed during my last visit (in oct) as the skin of the har gao was too thick.

I LOVE the fried prawn dumplings! Crispy on the outside, and full of prawn goodness on the inside. Dip it in the salad sauce and gobble it up!

Another must have is the duck! Though a little expensive $12 for a small plate. But the duck's skin is so crispy, like peking ducks skin.
The meat is nice and salty, and not too oily.

These are my top 4 must haves at Red Star, but if you can stomach more, than eat everything you can get your hands on!

Service: In a traditional dim sum restaurant, ladies push trollies around. But here in Singapore, things are a little different. People tend to be impaitient, and instead of waiting for the trolley, they just walk right up to the trolley to help themselves. This causes some confusion, and delays the dim sum ladies.

I strongly encourage you to go on a weekday (non-public holiday), unless you wish to queue for about an hour.

Red Star is a MUST GO for any dim sum lover!

Timbre!

Timbre ( pronounced as Timber) is a chill out bistro which promotes local music.

Timbre @ The Arts House is a great place for after work relaxation, as it boost a picturesque view of Boat Quay, and soothing sounds from the resident bands, not forgetting the scrumptious thin crust pizzas and delightful drinks.

Where: Timbre @ The Arts House - 1 Old Parliment Lane, #01-04, Singapore 179429

Food: Their signature would have to be their thin crust pizzas, topped with generous amounts of cheese and the various ingredients, depending on the type of pizza you order.

My favourites would have to be the Pharma Ham and Rosemary, and the Classic Italian Pizza. (The pizzas are about 12 inches, and priced at $17). The saltiness of the toppings, marries well with the thin, crispy crust.

The tapas, are not too bad, I like the Buffalo wings, spicy enough, but not to the extent your lips will start swelling from the heat. The seafood platter contains calamari, prawns, mussels and potato wedges, the one complaint I have about this dish, is that calamari is like rubber, chewy and a little stale.

Drinks: Timbre has a wide array of beverages. My favourite would have to be Sakura ( Vodka, Lychee Liqueur, Lychee Juice and Ribena). Tastes like Lychee martini, except sweeter due to the ribena. It is a ladies drink.

I do have one big problem. They only serve one round of ice water, and it has to be ordered before 10pm. If anyone wants a glass of water more than once, or after 10pm, it is self service at the bar. Besides this, Timbre is a great place to relax and unwind.
